Stand Ready Indy
Little thought is given about a public safety department that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year — until the unthinkable occurs. It doesn’t matter what the situation is, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics team (IMPD SWAT) is on call to respond. The team is comprised of 40 police officers — who all volunteer — who train continuously and are always on call, cycling through shifts every three weeks receiving only nominal hazard pay.
